05 Apr Veneers as an Alternative to Crowns
Depending on your needs, veneers may be the right dental restoration for you. Here’s an introduction:
What is a veneer?
A veneer is a thin but durable sheet of porcelain that is adhered to the rest of your tooth to restore it to former glory.
How would Dr. Desiree T. Palmer, DMD fit me with a veneer?
First, Dr. Desiree T. Palmer, DMD will take a look at your tooth and decide what dental restoration would be right for you. If your tooth is strong, a veneer will probably be the best option for you. If it has been weakened due to decay or aging, she will likely recommend a crown instead. If your tooth is missing entirely, you’ll want to look at a dental implant or bridge. Should she decide that a veneer is the best choice, she may be able to fit you with a temporary veneer immediately.
An impression will be taken of your mouth. After you leave, we’ll take this to a dental technician who will create your permanent veneer. If you want to get your teeth whitened, your dentist will ask you to get that done that before you receive the permanent veneer, as its material cannot be bleached later and you’ll want to match it to the shade of the rest of your teeth.
Once everything is ready, Dr. Desiree T. Palmer, DMD will take out the temporary veneer. Then she will adhere the permanent veneer to your tooth with a special durable dental superglue.
What are the benefits of a veneer?
• A complete and wonderful smile
• Your natural tooth roots are still in place and being used
• The natural tooth is protected from exposure to bacteria and acid
